I am upgrading a Fortis customer from v2.5 to v6.11 in two steps. Thye are currently on Windows 2003 server. We are going to move the Fortis databse to an interim Windows 2008 server and then upgrade them to 6.11. Then we  will migrate them to a Windows 2012 server in preperation for a later migration to Docuware.

Their IT admin asked if they could prepare the 2008 server and not add it to the domain since it will be a tempoary server. The 2012 box will be on the domain. This would eliminate several steps for the IT group that are required to bring up a new server in theri domain.

So the question is, will that cause any issues in the process on the interim server when we install Fortis 2.5 and then move the database over there. The when we move from the interim to the final 2012 server.

Good Afternoon Tim,

There should not be any issues with what you describe, so long as the database, documents and their storage folder structure are maintained when moving from one machine to the next. Testing may be more labor intensive, as the base.ini and dbs.ini files as well as the archive paths will need to be updated to work properly in the new environment, and then once again when moved to the final server.
