The user must have the check-out file cabinet right to use the check-in and check-out functions. Please refer to the following guide on how to grant the right to utilize the check-in and check-out functions;

1. This right is granted by adding users to the Edit Standard Profile. However, Standard profiles are predefined and cannot be modified.
2. Alternatively, use a Custom Profile to pick and choose which rights this user may have or create an Index Value Profile to control access to documents based on the value of an index field.
3. Lastly, the result function "Check-out to file system" must be enabled for the corresponding result list. Please refer to KBA-36884 for instructions on adding Result List functions to the context menu.
