Question:
How to install and delete a second Imaging Server?

Answer:
Imaging Server, for web-based file cabinet access, converts stored documents that are to be displayed in the Web Client Viewer to a graphics format. This ensures that all main file formats can be displayed and printed in high quality even without a browser plug-in. Imaging Server is also responsible for converting files to PDF and for the text search in the Web Client Viewer.
Imaging Server runs as a local service on Windows.

Installing a Second Imaging Server

If you have the DocuWare Server Professional edition, you can install a second instance of Imaging Server on a computer on which Imaging Server is already installed.
If you have the DocuWare Server Enterprise edition, you can install a second instance of Imaging Server on a different computer.

Regardless of where you install another Imaging Server, after installation you must configure Imaging Server in the DocuWare System > DocuWare Server > Imaging Server area of the DocuWare Administration.

Installing a second Imaging Server on the same computer

To install a second Imaging Server on a computer on which Imaging Server is already running, proceed as follows:

  1. Open DocuWare Administration. In Windows Vista/Windows 7, you need DocuWare Administration with administrator rights. Navigate within DocuWare Administration to the DocuWare System > DocuWare Server > Imaging Server node, open the context menu and select the menu item Register.
  2. Now select the program directory of the existing Imaging Server (by default C:\Program Files\DocuWare).
  3. A table containing settings where you can configure the new Imaging Server now opens. The Base addresses and Internal communication entries must differ from those of the first Imaging Server.

Deleting the Additional Imaging Server

If you want to delete the second Imaging Server again, navigate in DocuWare Administration to the node for that Imaging Server and select the context menu item De-Register.

Installing a second Imaging Server on a second computer

You can install another Imaging Server on a computer on which Imaging Server has not yet been installed via DocuWare Setup > Server Installation.
Then configure the new Imaging Server in the DocuWare System > DocuWare Server > Imaging Server area of DocuWare Administration.
If both Imaging Servers are to be used for the same Web instance, they must both have full access to the temporary directory of the Web instance. The directory should be specified as a UNC path in the Web instance (DocuWare Administration > Organization > General > Web Instances > Target). In addition, the two Imaging Servers must be assigned to the Web instance (DocuWare Administration > Organization > General > Web Instances > General).
If the two Imaging Servers are to be used for different Web instances, only assign them to the respective Web instance (DocuWare Administration > Organization > General > Web Instances > General).
