required in the DB but not in a dialog-1543874344

Hello,

Pretty new to Docuware.  So the business wants to to have 15 fields in the DB be required.  The file cabinat has ~8 dialogs and each dialog only uses about 2 - 4 of the required fields.  If I try to implement this I understandable get the error:

"the field right "Field may be empty" for field "ABC" is not granted!". 

I understand I COULD make a permissions role to allow a user to enter a blank value for a column, however if I allow a column to be blank it works for the dialog that doesnt include that field but allows the user to not enter in a value for a dialog that does use that field.

So my end goal is to have 15 fields be required, however I really only want those fields to be required if they are included in the dialog.  Is there a way to achieve this?  Thanks for any insight.   

Not sure how this can be done being the the right, May be empty, is at the cabinet profile level and not at the dialog field level. The only way to accomplish this is to give field rights at the dialog level which you can't do. This is the exact reason I don't create cabinets with a bunch of fields and then just create dialogs. You can run into issues like this. I know that is how a lot of people do it. Pro/Cons for both. 

the good thing is that there are a ton of people smarter than I am. So, there is a good chance someone has thought of a workaround. We will see..

I've tried to do exactly what you're wanting to do, sam j, but, alas, ya can't.  Casey, what do you do in this situation? Do you set up multiple cabinets?  I've done it that way before (pros/cons, as you say).  Have you ever gone that route and ended up having to setup 9-10 cabinets?  The only other solution I can think of off the top of my head would be to do the validations in a workflow (ie. conditionally route it back to the store user for the required info if a certain field is blank), but adding Workflow Designer can be a prohitive cost if the client doesn't subscribe to the cloud and if that's all you're planning on doing with it.

as you mentioned fields can be set to required on file cabinet level only at the moment. This means they are required across all store dialogs.

As announced in our customer feedback forum, we are going to change that with the next DocuWare Version (~ Spring 2019)
Fields can be set as required on dialog level then. So you can specify fields as mandatory for some dialogs, but not for others.

Until then you might take a look at the Validation, which validates the input when storing via an custom web service.
