change collation DB in MSSQL

I want to connect to Docuware DB by third party application (my apps is connect with db and built query to extract the data and show it in charts ) .  what the effect if I modify the DB collation in MSSQL will I lose the  data in docuware  or docuware  apps will crash? and do you recomend change the data from DB for any purpose if i am expert ?
