Assign to- Variable Funcationality in Workflows

In our previous 6.X version of docuware we were able to capture an AD name in an index field then assign it to a text global variable to be used to assign a task to that user. Today I was creating a workflow for the first time utilizing this procedure since upgrading to 7.0 but a text global variable doesnt appear in the select select under variable in the assign to activity. How can I still accomplish this as sometimes our workflows are very fluid in who needs to approve it and how many approvals, so utilizing groups or roles wouldnt work very well.

you just have to recreate the variable and put it as a user/group variable. This was not listed in the changes documentation but is a change. We had the same issue. You have to recreate your variables you used to assign users to use the new user variable. Once you do that, it will then show up as an option to assign with.
