Not every recognition technology works equally well across all applications. The user must select the recognition technology manually, because the application in which Smart Search is executed is not known in advance. When creating the Smart Search configuration, it is necessary to try out which recognition technology delivers the best readout results for the respective application. Text Extraction works well for many applications and is therefore the recommended method. UIAutomation is an alternative to "Text extraction". "OCR" works best for terminal server environments. However, it also delivers results if no other recognition technology works. It should be mentioned that "OCR" sometimes provides incorrect readout results (characters recognized incorrectly).
