Good Day DocuWare Team,

Can DocuWare be installed on Virtual Machines (VM)? If yes, please advise what the minimum specifications and the type of Virtual Machines e.g. VMWare, Hyper-V that can be used. We need this information to provide to a potential client who has interest in purchasing DocuWare software.

Thank you!

Hi Nicholas Ramsey,

I am in my 8th year as a DocuWare Consultant now, and I have never once installed DW on a bare metal server. All my installations are some kind of virtual machine. The specs can be found in the documentation over on https://knowledgecenter.docuware.com/. Any type of self-hosted VM can be used.
AWS and Azure VMs are not supported due to their limited MSMQ functionality.

Hi Simon,

Thanks for confirming that the latest DocuWare can be installed on a virtual machine. Our client's intention was not to install it on a bare metal server, but rather they were considering purchasing a new Windows server for on-premise and they wanted to save the finances from this purchase.
I have been searching for the minimum specs for the virtual server and was not able to find it. So my final question will it be the same specs for the virtual machine as it is for a physical on-premise server?
Please advise if this is the correct link below.

Hi Nicholas Ramsey,

yes, those are the current system requirements for an on-prem installation.
As far as I know, the article you linked does not mention any difference between physical servers or virtual machines anywhere (except for Intellix on prem, which you should not use anyway).
I have always relied on these requirements for all my installations, which are a mix of Hyper-V, ESX, KVM and AWS (do not use AWS though, it is not supported by DocuWare).
