How do i create DocuWare Request?
Answer:
DocuWare REQUEST in version 6.x is a self-contained retrieval software that you can run from a directory or portable media. It is build in .NET and uses IIS Express, Sumatra PDF Viewer, and SQLite. DocuWare REQUEST (export) can be created from a result list or from REQUEST configuration main page.
However, DocuWare REQUEST requires that you have a storage location configured with (On-premise installations only):
- -UNC path if the REQUEST is going to be created in an intranet environment. Meaning that you need to create a shared-folder and make sure that folder is accessible via UNC (uniform naming convention).
- - FTP path if the REQUEST is going to be created within/out of local area network. Assuming that the FTP is accessible from outside of network.
Below is quick demonstration in how to configure and create DocuWare REQUEST for exporting documents.
Administration Tool (preparation)
Create a storage location in the Administration tool with UNC or FTP paths. 
NOTE: If you want to use FTP server then you will enter its FTP address with credentials in the following format (sample below) instead of the UNC path address:

ftp://username:password@ftp.server.com/Request.
NOTE: Customers with DocuWare Online (SaaS) this configuration will be already done for you. The above configuration guide is only for customers with on premise installations.
DocuWare Request – Export
DocuWare REQUEST creation can be initiated from a Result List
If you want to initiate the creation process of DocuWare REQUEST from the result list, it is suggested that you query the search with specific criteria and not start from a global search (no search parameters).
NOTE: One of the advantages of starting from a result list is that you no longer need to enter some search criteria when you go to the configuration page (below screenshot). Also you will have fewer options (like four tabs instead of five). 
Create REQUEST from Configuration Page (normally)
Open DocuWare configuration interface page (http://[DWSERVER]/Docuware/Settings)
- Here are some screenshots:
- You will select “Export” type and then click the Plus sign ( + )
- Enter the name of the job alone with the file cabinet and the result-list dialog.
- Now, this part is critical because based what you select it will either take longer to create a REQUEST or quicker, because of the conversion process. Now, if you have old DW4 or DW5 documents it is suggested to convert to PDF, otherwise it will display a list like the last screenshot in this guide.
- Here you will enter the search criteria. If you have had started the process from a result-list, then this window will be bypassed.
- Assign the user that can download this request. This option has nothing do with access rights to those documents in the portable media. Once DocuWare REQUEST is created anyone can access those documents like using Windows Explorer. DocuWare REQUEST does not encrypt nor has a method of protecting those documents in REQUEST, anyone can access them using any third party tool or program.
- Here you can schedule the REQUEST job.
- Running DocuWare REQUEST
- Once completed you can download the ZIP file. This is the reason why you had to configure the storage location with UNC or FTP storage location path, its download will be pulled from that location.
- Now, extract content of the zip file to expose its content.
- Run the DocuWare REQUEST program.
- The main interface will look like the image below. It may display a little bit differently if the fulltext data was not transfered.
- Finally, once you get a result list from your REQUEST search you can “double click” on the record and display the document. The document will be displayed based on the Windows file association. If there is no file association and, or, it contains multiple files it will display a dropdown list where you can select the file and open it with the corresponding application (in Windows).
