I have a client that wants to migrate File Cabinet and documents from Docuware Professional Server 5.1c SP2 to Docuware Professional Server 7.3.

Has anyone previously performed this migration? if Yes, I will appreciate a bit of knowledge transfer.

Dear Ayodeji M Akanbi

There are at least 3 possible approaches for this.
  • Update the source system to DW7.3 according to the upgrade paths (https://support.docuware.com/en-us/knowledgebase/article/KBA-34774) and transfer documents into newly created file cabinets in the target system via Transfer Workflow
  • Install the new system with DW6.12, use the index restore workflow (https://support.docuware.com/en-us/knowledgebase/article/KBA-34330) to restore the documents in this new installation and then continue to update the system to DW7.3
  • Code a tool which can read out the old system (either the file cabinet folders containing image file and document header or communicating with the old DocuWare System) and import them with the given index entries into the file cabinets of the new system (https://developer.docuware.com/dotNet/66b2ed1e-2aef-452a-97cd-5014bbf0242b.html)
In general, we recommend getting in touch with our PS Team (professional.services.emea@docuware.com), as they have much experience with the migration of data of old DWVersions and can take care of some of the steps or even the whole migration.

With best regards, DocuWare Support Team
