Is there a way to change the setting of an import configuration to prevent files from being converted to a PDF/A?  I am sending documents to a network folder and they are being automatically imported by a DW Import Configuration.  Later on, I may download the document and want to edit it, but I can't because it's a PDF/A.

Thank you!

Alissa,
DocuWare Printer, Printer PS and DocuWare Scan create PDF/A documents. The import process does not create a PDF document, it simply imports it. Having said that, you cannot disable the creation of PDF/A documents by the DocuWare Apps mentioned above. However you CAN edit a PDF/A document.
Depending on the PDF Editor, you need to go in to the application preferences, and set it to allow editing of PDF/A documents. In  FoxIt Phantom PDF, this setting can be found under:

Preferences > Documents > PDF/A View mode > View documents in PDF/A mode:
There are 2 settings:

Only for PDF/A documents or Never.

The Never setting allows editing of PDF/A documents.

Consult the Help of the editor you are using to make the appropriate change for that app.

Phil,

I think we might need a little update here. I went over this with Alissa and have tested it on my machine as well. To be more accurate, she has an import job monitoring a folder that receives scanned PDFs from a multi-function device to a document tray. If she needs to edit the file she right clicks and chooses 'Download in original format'. Sure enough the file is opened in Adobe as a PDF/A. We checked it several times and the results are the same on my PC as well. Conversly if the file is brought into the tray using the Import icon and procedure repeated, the PDF is opened as editable. It sure looks like DocuWare Import is doing a conversion although I did not expect that result.

Thanks,

Steve,
Interesting. That is contrary to what I understand so I will look in to it. Regardless, alter the preferences in the editor to allow editing PDF/A.
What version of DocuWare?

Can i get confirmation that the DocuWare Printer, Printer PS and DocuWare Scan all create PDF/A documents in versions 7.2 and later? I'd also like to confirm if an import process imports a PDF/A document , DocuWare will store it as a PDF/A.

If the above all create PDF/A documents in DocuWare, I would assume downloading in original format would download a PDF/A, correct?
