Behavior:
The settings of DocuWare Desktop are not saved in a Terminal Server or Citrix environment if the localappdata directory is deleted after the user logs off.

Solution:
The reason for this kind of problem is that the folders, that DocuWare Desktop use, are not distributed through the farm after the user logs out. That is why when arranging the Profile Management in Citrix, folder redirection should be set up. The best strategy is to redirect all folders that you want to be persistent for the user.

DocuWare stores the Desktop specific data in the following locations:

  • Connections:
    • Up to DocuWare 6.5 the connections are stored in the %LOCALAPPDATA% of the localsystemaccount. In most cases this is C:\Windows\SysWOW64\config\systemprofile\AppData\Local\DocuWare\Desktop
    • From DocuWare 6.6 the connections are automatically created and there is no reason to roam them. The exact location is:  %PROGRAMDATA%\DocuWare\Desktop
    • Import Jobs:  %LOCALAPPDATA%\ of the localsystemaccount. In most cases this is C:\Windows\SysWOW64\config\systemprofile\AppData\Local\DocuWare\Desktop\hotfolders.xml.
We recommend not to roam this file because each server has its own hotfolders.xml where it stores the Import Jobs. If one server synchronizes the file with another server then the content of the file that was already created by the new server would be lost and so do the Import-Jobs of this server.

The other locally stored data, such as Scanner setting, Scanner Persistence, Printer Job Folder is stored in a location that is normally not roamed: %LOCALAPPDATA%\DocuWare\Desktop. Such kind of data is local for the client machine and this is the reason why the %LOCALAPPDATA%\ has been chosen.
Here it should be possible to include this folder in the Folder and File Inclusion Lists. You can find step-by-step manual how to do so in the Citrix Support Site:
http://support.citrix.com/proddocs/topic/user-profile-manager-sou/upm-include-task-den.html

Note that you choose only specific folders that should be synchronized with the roaming profile, not the whole %LOCALAPPDATA% or %PROGRAMDATA%. Otherwise, the size of the roaming profile folder will increase drastically and the performance will suffer.
