Hi all,

I just upgraded our system from 6.12 to 7.  I use an ODBC connection for autoindexing and know that 7 no longer supports 32 bit connections.  I created a 64-bit DSN matching the exact name of the 32-bit DSN (based on one of Phil's previous posts) but I am still receiving the [object Object] error when modifying my AutoIndex jobs.

Can anyone offer some help?

Thanks,

David

Hi David, I also can't get an odbc connection to an Access database working and this is in a fresh DW7 installation.  I just did a remote session with a DW tech and we tried 64-bit and 32-bit and though it's not giving the same error as you it's not seeing the tables in the db at all.  At this point the DW tech is working on it on his end.  I'll update here.

Thanks Jon.  That's exactly the same problem I'm having with an Access DB.

For Access you need the Microsoft 64 bit Access driver, and the Access database must have a user name and password configured.

Phil,

I already have the 64 bit Access driver installed.  I'm not sure what you mean by "the Access database must have a user name and password configured."  Do you mean the login information under the DSN connection or under the Database Connection in DocuWare?

I think he means that you have to configure the database itself with a username and password.  To do that you open Access then open the database in Exclusive mode (click the drop-down menu next to the Open button and you'll see it).  From there you can go into the File->Options and set the username and password.

However, it still doesn't work.  No effect on the behaviour we're describing.  When I test the connection in the DW Admin Tool it gives me an error that says "Cannot open connection: ERROR [IM002] [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified".  Interestingly, when I set up a 32-bit ODBC connection to the same db it tests fine in the DW Admin Tool but it still can't see the tables.

Jon,

How are you testing the connection in the DW Admin Tool?  I must be blind.

What I mean is that in my experience, for DocuWare to be abel to read data from an Access database, you need to set up Access to have a user name and password. All of DocuWare's ODBC connections request a user name and password.

In any event, this issue is the subject of a support request, and it should be handled through that and not in the forum at this time.

I wil make this comment. In my testing with 7, I used an Access database to configure a 64 bit ODBC connection and it was successful. So let's see where the investigation goes, however as I said Access typically must be secured.

heh heh, no worries, there's a little "check accessibility" button right up under the Local menu item at the top.

These steps must be followed:

1. Create a 32 bit ODBC DSN connection to the database (ODBCAD32.exe).
2. Open DocuWare Administration and register the connection (under database connections).

3. Create a 64 bit ODBC connection with EXACTLY the SAME name as the 32 bit ODBC connection (ODBC Data Sources 64 bit).

In Configurations create your connection - Select lists etc..

Phil,

I found my problem was that the user account for the Workflow service (a local admin DWSERVICES account) does not have access to my network share where the Access file is stored.  I changed the user account for the Workflow service but it won't start as this user (who is also a domain admin).  If I change the user back to the my local DWSERVICES account, it starts up.  What am I missing?

The answer is in the system event viewer.
Also, you will likely need to have all DocuWare services run with those domain rights.

My problem has been solved.  I think they key for me was to make sure that I was creating System DNS's for both the 32-bit and 64-bit odbc connections.  When creating a User DNS it only allowed one odbc connection with the same name so when I created the 64-bit connection it over-wrote the 32-bit connection.  It didn't do that when they were both System DNS's.

Hello! I just had the same problem, with 7.1 and 32bits access.
The solution is in Microsoft, you have to download the 64-bit Access engine, and install it in the DW server, to be able to create the 64-bit legitimate connection by hand. I send the link:

All you need to do is to create a 64 bit ODBC connection with exactly the same name as the original 32 bit ODBC connection. DocuWare Platform will then select the 64 bit ODBC driver.

Oh thank you!

I named them differently to keep track of what I was seeing.
Thought I was being clever.
