Would it be possible to use the XML file created by the system backup option in the admin tool, to restore a system to another installation of the same version of DocuWare, with the same license file, on a different machine? For instance as a way to move a test environment to production.

Yes. The backup is designed to recover the DocuWare system in the event of catastrophic failure. Remember that the target system must be empty - that is just a basic install. You cannot replace a running system.

Thanks Phil, I thought that was the case. But now I can't find a way to run the restore. Has that be removed from the admin tool?

Found it. In the admin tool on the tools menu. There is an item for creating a backup as well as restoring from one.

Phil,
I've been attempting to perform a test restore to determine if it will perform as expected in a DR environment, but, I continually receive errors as seen in the attached image.
Initially I assumed it was due to different credentials for the db, so, since this is a test environment, I uninstalled and reinstalled using the same windows admin acct as well as the db acct, but, still receive the same errors.
I'd like to explore the built in functionality of the the back up and restore process for future reference.
