• Encrypted file system

    Michael,
DocuWare provides its own encryption with Enterprise Server. We do know that BitLocker works fine with DocuWare however it is an encrypted disk and when mounted the files are human readable, while DocuWare encrypts the actual files. It comes down to what the customer actually wants. I am not aware of any product that sits between the operating system and the application level and can encrypt/decrypt files on-the-fly without interfering with the OS or application.

  • Workflow.

    Rebecca,
While the graphic flow looks logical the problem must lie within the processes of the workflow itself.
What are the workflow trigger conditions?

  • DocuWare Desktop - AutoCad

    David,
I'm not at all sure what the problem could be. No anti-virus on the machine eliminates the most probably possibility. I wonder if the .bak file is created by AutoCad and that may have some bearing. I'll check Edit & Send on my system to see if a .bak file is created by DocuWare - I doubt it though. It is odd that Desktop cannot 'see' the file. This leads me to believe that it is locked. Also, the random nature of the problems makes it very difficult to track down.
    What version of DocuWare?
Since it is new pc I'll assume Windows 10.

This procedure may help in tracking down what has the file locked, I would run this script a few times just before pressing save. It may give some insight.

  • EDI

    Troy,
DocuWare contains no processor for EDI. Therefore, even though the EDI file is human readable, you will need a program that can open and understand the EDI format. Of course you could print it with Notepad, but the resulting PDF file in DocuWare will look just like the jumbled mess that you see in Notepad. Since the EDI standard has been around forever, you should be able to find something to pre-process it for you.
Keep in mind, that EDI files were always meant to be read by a program to extract and disseminate the data for the target application according to the required format. In my experience EDI was never a document but simply information. Perhaps that has changed over the years?

  • Web Trays

    Joe,
Josef is referring to the old Windows Client and Baskets. The windows client was a C++ application that was installed and run on the workstation. The baskets were document respositories on the actual workstation hard drive. Completely different technology and architecture. It cannot be compared to the web trays, the web client or the desktop apps.

  • Import jobs from trays.

    Josef,
Web trays are not on the local machine. Web Trays are basically a file cabinet, and all you have in the tray is the representation of the documents. Importing from a web tray makes little sense since the documents have basically already been stored - just not in to a file cabinet. I doubt that it will ever happen. Still I might be wrong, it has happened before.

  • Import & Scanning

Actually, once the scanned document is delivered to the jobs folder,it is processed basically as if it was an import job.

See this graphic on the desktop architecture.

  • Import

    Joe,
There is no Import configuration that can be run from a tray. Automatic storage allows you to select a number of documents in the tray and store them in a batch in to the file cabinet that is the default for the tray. Of course they need tov be pre-indexed.
I don't think there is a way to stop the user from selecting another import configuration or just their inbox. It is a worthy suggestion under the circumstances.
In my experience, a configuration that generally works and suddenly fails can be caused by the configuration being created at say 300 dpi, and the user changing their scan settings to say 200 dpi. That will cause huge problems for the OCR.

  • DocuWare Desktop

    David,
I think Desktop is crashing because it has no graceful exit from the error where the file is supposed to be there, since that's where it put it.
    So some questions:
When does the error occur - During editing or when saving the document?
Have you inspected the file system to see if the file is still there after the error?

If the file is still there:
Check Real time anti-virus and create an exception for the AppData\Local\Temp folder.

If the file is not there:
You need to investigate what process could be removing the file.
Autocad could be doing something with the file. Given that it is random, can you identify any particular function when you are editing that is common to when the error occurs?

  • Stamp info toy fill an index field.

    Kjetil,
Absolutely you can do that. In DocuWare Administration, expand the stamps section and then open the help. It will guide you through updating an index field with information entered on a stamp. Once you define a field for inserting data you can select select the DocuWare index field you wish to update.
