• Index on file name

DocuWare does not provide any further text extraction for the document file name. You can only select filename or file name and extension. The only possibility would be post processing the document after it is stored, using Workflow Manager to split the file name in to other index fields. Of course, if the customer does not have Workflow Manager then that is not an option. The SDK or a database trigger would be the only other options. Database triggers are problematic as they must be carefully written to only trigger once on a document, and must be disabled before upgrading DocuWare.

  • Fields Masks

In 6.10, Field masks are defined in File Cabinet Administration.
Expand the File Cabinet. Expand Dialogs. Expand the required dialog. Select the field and expand it. The File Mask option is in the field option list.

A database field cannot be converted from one type to another. If you wish to change the field type then you must create a new field. The data from the INT field will then need to be copied to the new Text field at database level.

  • DocuWare Americas Support availability February 12th 2019

Due to the impending winter storm due to cross New York and New England tomorrow Tuesday February 12th, it has been decided to cancel the late shift rosters for both New York and Connecticut.
The current forecast is calling for 5 inches or more of snow topped with up to 2 inches of sleet and another layer of ice. This will make evening travel quite hazardous.
Therefore, both support offices will close at 5:00PM Eastern Standard Time.

We appologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

  • File Format Conversion

DocuWare does not contain an in-built file format conversion utility. The only option that I can think of off-hand is to print the document to a PDF printer, such as DocuWare printer and re-store the document. This however is a manual task. Another option (more expensive) is to engage Professional Services to perform an "in-place" conversion of the documents to PDF. This would entail a custom program that basically went through the DocuWare storage location and replaced each tiff with a pdf. This also requires the program to modify the XML header records and the database at the same time to ensure integrity. Apart from that there really is not much in the way of options.

  • Terminal Server

    Jason,
The principal for 7 is the same as with 6.9. Install the apps on the terminal server, publish them and you should be good to go.

  • No.

No. The web components make a direct database connection. That means the front end services are talking directly to the database. You do not want your DocuWare server facing the internet and you certainly do not want it in a DMZ. Put it behind a firewall and use ARR as the documentation describes.

  • Reverse Proxy.

    Seth,
If you do not want your DocuWare server directly exposed to the internet then a reverse proxy with ARR is a must. The KBA article here is valid for 7 as well. (The versions just need updating).

  • Local Data Connector

    Jon,
It can see as far as you allow it to. For example, if you can create a connection to a database using Windows ODBC tools, then you can also connect the LDC. There is nothing special about it. You need to supply a resolvable address to the database server. As I said, if you create a standard ODBC connection using Windows standard tools then the LDC should connect. The underlying technology is .NET.

  • DocuWare Test Server

    Will,

The problem of setting up a test server for you is more problematic. 2 different DocuWare systems cannot share the database, so the VM copy will be completely inoperable. I think that you should have our professional services work with you to avoid any chance of a problem. You are going to need to install another instance of MSSQL on the test machine. While it is not overly complicated, there are many traps for the unwary.
So yes, start with your DocuWare Rep.

  • Test Server

You are going to need to tread very carefully. What database is being used? Is it on the DocuWare server or a separate server?
Where are the documents? On the DocuWare server or a SAN / Network share?
How do you intend to start the VM when it will have the same name as the production server? Different network?
After re-naming the VM the DocuWare services will not start and the database will need to be patched. You will need our help to do that.
